Grandson and heir of John, second Baron of Aston, being only son of Michael Darcy, by Margaret, daughter of Thomas Wentworth of Wentworth Woodhouse, co. York, which Michael was only son of the last Lord, but died v.p., 13 Dec 1588, and was buried at Wentworth. M.I. He was aged 23 and more at his grandfather's death. He was summoned to Parliament 5 Nov 1605 to 20 Jan 1628/9, by writs directed Johanni Darcy et Meinill. He is recorded as having had the courage to refuse a challenge from Gervase Markham in 1616. He married firstly, Rosamund, dau. of Peter Freschevile of Staveley, co. Derby, by his 2nd wife, Margaret, dau. of Arthur Kaye of Woodsome, co. York. She, who was bap. at Staveley, 5 Jun 1576, died 18 Apr 1607, and was buried at Aston. M.I. He married secondly, 7 May 1617, at Walton, co. Derby, Isabel, daughter of Sir Christopher Wray of Glentworth, co. Lincoln, Chief Justice of the Queen's Bench, by Anne, daughter of Nicholas Girlington of Normanby, co. York. She was widow of Godfrey Foljambe, of Walton, afsd., who was born at Walton 21, and bap. 25 Nov 1558 at Chesterfield; and 2ndly, as 2nd wife, Sir William Bowes of Streatlam and Barnard Castle, co. Durham, who died 30 Oct 1611. She died s.p. at Aldward, co. York, 27 Jan 1621/2, and was buried at Rawmarsh in that co. M.I. at Aston. He married 3rdly, 7 Nov 1624, at Harthill, co. She was baptized 11 Apr 1606, at Coxwold, and died 14 Sep 1625, in childbirth, aged 19, and was buried at Aston. M.I. He married 4thly, Elizabeth, sister and coheir of John West of Firbeck, and 1st daughter of William West of the same, by Catherine, 1st daughter of Sir Edward Darcy of Dartford, Kent. He died s.p.s. 5 Jul 1635. Will dated 23 Jan 1633 (1633/4) and 25 Mar 1634; proved at York, 14 Aug 1636 (unregistered). At his death the Barony of Darcy as restored in 1548 became extinct, by the failure of the issue male of the restored Lord. His widow married (lic. 1636) Sir Franics Fane, K.B. She died in her 63rd year, at Aston, and was buried there, 24 Jul 1669. He died in 1680, in his 69th year, and was buried with her. M.I. to both there. No issue remaining from the last Lord Darcy, the representation of him and of Dorothy Melton, the heiress of Aston, vested in the issue of Henry Savile of Copley, Esq., and Anne his wife, the only sister of Lord Darcy; but they seem to have been passed over in the disposition of the estates, which passed to the male heir, Conyers Darcy, the descendant of Sir Arthur Darcy, younger son of Thomas, Lord Darcy, and a younger brother of George, Lord Darcy, who married the heiress of Melton (Hunter's South Yorkshire, ii, 164)
