Notes: after her first husband’s death at Bath Place, Holborn, Dorothy was his sole executrix and on 4 May 1572 issued a writ in her own name as "lord and owner" of the town of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire to appoint the burgesses. This scandalized the local citizens.

Notes: his second wife, Elizabeth Cornwallis, was the daughter of Sir Thomas Cornwallis of Brome Hall and Anne Jerningham. Her mother was a lady of the privy chamber to Queen Mary and Elizabeth entered the service of the Duchess of Norfolk until her marriage in 1561. Elizabeth brought the madrigal singer and composer, John Wilbye with her from Brome to Hengrave Hall and her daughter Mary took over as his patron after Elizabeth’s death. In 1581, Elizabeth persuaded friends from court to intercede on behalf of her father, who was imprisoned for recusancy. In 1599, she was facing that charge herself and again called upon influential friends who were able to keep her from being presented at the Bury St. Edmunds petty sessions. As a widow, Elizabeth spent part of her time at Hengrave Hall and the rest at a new house her husband had built in Clerkenwell.

Notes: when her mother died, took over the patronage of John Wilbye, the madrigalist. Lord Darcy suspected Mary of "unbecoming flirtations, if not outright adultery". Their formal separation in 1594 left Mary with £300 a year and, eventually, the Kytson estates.
